Bell System

Bell System

The Bell System was the American Bell Telephone Company, and thereafter, AT & T led system which provided telephone services in most of the United States and Canada from 1877 to 1984, several times as a monopoly. In 1984, the company was divided into two separate companies, a U.S. Justice Department mandate.

The colloquial term Ma Bell (as "Mother Bell") was often used by the general public in the United States to refer to any aspect of this conglomerate, as he held an almost complete monopoly on all telephone services in most parts of the country, and is still used by many to refer to any phone company Ma Bell is also used to designate the different female voices behind recordings for the Bell System:. Mary Moore, Jane Barbe, and Pat Fleet (voice current aT & T).
